ACB Arrests Woman Sarpanch For Taking Bribe of Rs. 6,500

Srinagar 16 February (KNB): Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday said they have trapped and arrested Hafiza Begum, a Sarpanch, Khulchohar, District Anantnag for accepting bribe of ₹6,500/- for approving work files related to works executed by the complainant.

An official said that Srinagar Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint, wherein the complainant alleged that Sarpanch Khulchohar, District Anantnag Hafiza Begum, a wife of Ghulam Qadir Kumar from Khulchohar, Block Shangus, Anantnag has demanded ₹6500 on account of approving work files related to works executed under MGNREGA, 14 FC and SBM through the office of BDO Shangus.

“Upon receiving the instant complaint prima facie offence U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. Consequently, case FIR No. 03/2022 was registered at P/S ACB Anantnag,” the ACB official said.

It was further said that subsequently, a trap team was constituted and the trap team caught Hafiza Begum while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹6500/- from the complainant.

“She was arrested and taken into custody by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from her possession in presence of independent witnesses,” the official said, adding that further investigation of the case is going on. (KNB)
