Abdul Gani Vakil seeks compensation to hailstorm-hit farmers, orchardists

Baramulla 05 May 2023 (KNB):The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) Senior Vice President and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today expressed concern over the damage caused to apple blossom and other crops due to heavy hail storm in several areas of Zainageer including Sagipora, Zaloora, Tujarsharief, Harwan and Bomai.

In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB, Vakil demanded comprehensive compensation to the orchardists and farmers who suffered heavy losses due to heavy hailstorm.

“Whenever natural calamities cause damage to the fruit and crops, the worse affected were assured compensation and even surveys are being conducted. But no relief reaches to the affected farmers,” Vakil said.

Statement further added, Vakil urged the government to go for immediate assessment of damages to fruit and vegetable crops and disburse financial relief to the affected families without any delay as they have already suffered heavy losses.

“Waiving of the KCC loan is the need of the hour at this crucial juncture which can be helpful to a great extent in reviving the horticulture sector which is in shambles,” Vakil added. (KNB)
