Palhallan, August 27 (KNB): Residents of Tantrypora area of Palhallan in north Kashmir have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for the past several days, with households located at the tail-end of the supply line bearing the brunt of the crisis.

Locals said they have repeatedly brought the matter to the notice of the concerned authorities, but alleged that no effective measures have been taken so far to address the shortage.

Residents further alleged that some households located near the main water pipeline are operating online boosters for several hours, which they claim is affecting the supply to families living farther away.

The residents have appealed to the concerned authorities to intervene and ensure that water boosters are not operated continuously for long hours, so that the available supply reaches all households in a fair and equitable manner.

Locals acknowledged that water availability has also been affected by low water levels in the nallahs. However, they urged authorities to strictly monitor excessive domestic consumption of tap water, particularly for washing clothes, toilets, gardens and other non-essential purposes.

They also called for inspection of household tubewells and water usage, wherever necessary, to identify excessive consumption and ensure responsible use of the available water resources.

Residents have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure equitable water distribution and provide relief to the affected households in Tantrypora, Palhallan.(KNB)
