BARAMULLA 14 Aug(KNB): The Indian Army’s 52 Rashtriya Rifles distributed solar lights among families of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community in a remote hamlet of Baramulla, aiming to provide reliable lighting and support children’s education after sunset.
The outreach programme, organised under Headquarters 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, benefited 143 locals from adjoining areas. A free medical camp was also organised during the event.
The solar lights are expected to help families in the high-altitude settlement, where access to regular electricity remains a challenge. Local residents expressed gratitude, saying the initiative would particularly benefit children who can now continue their studies after dark.
The programme was part of the Army’s ongoing community outreach efforts aimed at supporting people in remote areas and improving access to basic facilities. Residents appreciated the initiative, describing it as a meaningful step towards education, welfare and a better quality of life.(KNB)
