Srinagar, July 1(KNB): Former Municipal Council President Baramulla, Touseef Raina, has alleged that he was verbally abused, threatened and an attempt was made to assault him by the Baramulla MLA during a public interaction at Khajabagh in Baramulla.
According to Raina, the incident occurred while he was listening to public grievances after being invited by local residents to the area. He claimed that the MLA repeatedly used abusive language, attempted to physically assault him, and tried to snatch his mobile phone while he was recording the exchange.
Raina further alleged that derogatory remarks were made against him during the confrontation, which, he said, posed a serious threat to his safety and security.
Eyewitnesses present at the spot and video footage circulating on social media purportedly captured parts of the incident, which took place in the presence of several local residents, drawing widespread attention.
Following the incident, Raina has urged the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the matter and register an FIR if the allegations are found to be true. He has sought legal action over the alleged offences, including the use of abusive language, criminal intimidation, attempted assault and other applicable provisions of law.
The MLA’s response to the allegations could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report. KNB will update the story if a response is received from the concerned legislator or the police.(KNB)
