Srinagar, May 30(KNB): Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Education, Sakina Itoo, on Saturday said that the government will file a review petition before the Supreme Court next week regarding the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issue concerning in-service teachers across the Union Territory.

In a Post shared on X, the Minister said that the government is closely monitoring the matter and is committed to safeguarding the interests of the teaching community. She said all necessary legal measures are being taken to seek appropriate relief for the affected teachers.

Sakina Itoo stated that the review petition is being prepared and will be filed before the apex court in the coming week following consultations with legal experts and concerned authorities.

The development comes days after the Supreme Court upheld TET as a mandatory qualification for in-service teachers while extending the deadline for acquiring the qualification till August 31, 2028. The verdict has triggered concern among thousands of teachers, particularly those appointed before the implementation of TET norms in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister assured teachers that the government stands with them and will continue efforts to address their concerns through legal and constitutional channels.

The issue has remained a major concern for the teaching fraternity, with several teachers’ organisations urging the government to intervene and seek a review of the Supreme Court judgment.(KNB)
