LG Terms Drug Menace ‘Silent Terrorism’, Vows Zero-Tolerance Crackdown Across Kashmir

Srinagar, May 3(KNB): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday described the growing drug menace in Kashmir as “silent terrorism,” warning that it poses a serious threat to society and must be eradicated through collective resolve.

Addressing a large gathering at an anti-drug rally in Srinagar, the LG asserted that the administration is committed to leaving no stone unturned in eliminating the menace. He said all police stations across Jammu and Kashmir have been directed to take strict and decisive action against drug traffickers, underlining a zero-tolerance approach.

The rally, held as part of an ongoing anti-drug campaign, was flagged off from the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and culminated at the historic Lal Chowk. It saw participation from government officials, civil society members, students, and community leaders.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said the campaign has gathered significant momentum, with more than 3,000 religious clerics joining the initiative to raise awareness against drug abuse at the grassroots level.

Officials said the administration is adopting a multi-pronged strategy—combining strict enforcement, public awareness, and community participation—to curb the spread of narcotics. Greater emphasis is also being placed on encouraging citizens to report drug-related activities.

The rally concluded with participants taking a pledge to strengthen efforts towards building a drug-free Kashmir.(KNB)
