CBI arrests EPFO commissioner, assistant in Rs 50,000 bribery case in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 1(KNB): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested two public servants, including a Regional Provident Fund Commissioner (RPFC) and a Senior Security Assistant of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Batmaloo, in an alleged bribery case in Srinagar.

According to an official statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB that, the arrests were made after the accused were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant. The case pertains to allegations that the RPFC had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh in exchange for not initiating adverse action and imposing a heavy penalty against the complainant’s school.

The CBI registered the case on March 31, 2026, following a complaint regarding the demand for illegal gratification. Acting swiftly, the agency laid a trap the same day and apprehended the Senior Security Assistant red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 on behalf of the RPFC.

Officials said the RPFC was subsequently arrested after it was established that he had acknowledged the acceptance of the bribe through the middleman.
The investigation into the case is currently underway, officials added.(KNB)
