Srinagar, April 18 (KNB): Srinagar Police have apprehended a woman identified as Zeenat, daughter of Ghulam Ahmad Pampori, residing in the Saraibala area.
Zeenat was allegedly involved in a devious scheme that targeted citizens outside automated teller machines (ATMs).
According to the police, Zeenat would pose as a helpful stranger near ATMs, preying on individuals who were unfamiliar with the intricacies of card transactions. Her modus operandi involved swapping their ATM cards while offering help. The victims, often caught off guard, would unwittingly hand over their cards, believing they were receiving genuine help.
The investigation was initiated after several victims reported unauthorized transactions and missing funds from their bank accounts. The police launched an operation, leading to Zeenat’s arrest. During the raid at her residence, police officials recovered a staggering 30 ATM cards, Rs 39,130 in cash, and gold items believed to be part of the ill-gotten gains.
The case has been registered under FIR no. 17/2024 at Police Station Khanyar. Zeenat faces charges under sections 379 (theft)and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).(KNB)
