Srinagar, (KNB): The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) recently hosted a two-day international conference titled “Navigating the Crisis of Climate Change in Kashmir and Northern Himalayan regions: The Role of Cooperative Federalism.” Held on March 6th and 7th, 2024, the conference aimed to tackle the pressing climate issues gripping the region.
In a handout issued to KNB, it was stated that the conference was organized by the esteemed Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), a German foundation and the Forum of Federations in collaboration with the local partner, The Centre & School for Sustainable Development and Environment. The event brought together a diverse array of experts and luminaries.
Distinguished knowledge partners, including the revered Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai and CRRID Chandigarh, guided the discourse alongside renowned figures such as Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir and Prof. Vijaylakshmi Brara, a renowned Sociologist and Social Scientist.
The conference witnessed the participation of eminent intellectuals and experts in the field, including Dr. Adrain Haack, Director KAS India, Prof. Rekha Saxena Senior Professor University of Delhi and Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Dean TISS, among others. Their expertise contributed to fruitful discussions and generated crucial recommendations aimed at strengthening existing policy frameworks in climate action plans.
Throughout seven rigorous deliberation sessions, a plethora of climate change-related research papers and seminal addresses were presented, fostering an environment conducive to meaningful discourse and tangible solutions. Notably, the symposium emphasized the importance of cooperative federalism in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
