Anantnag, 30 November(KNB):The District Magistrate of Anantnag has issued an order prohibiting the sale of fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets.
The decision comes in response to a significant increase in traffic accidents involving two-wheeler riders who fail to wear helmets, resulting in fatalities and severe injuries. The District Administration alongside the efforts of the Police and Transport Department, has undertaken urgent measures to combat this issue.
The order, issued under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and invoking the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, declares the operation of a two-wheeler without a helmet as a serious traffic infraction.
Petrol pump stations in District Anantnag are prohibited from selling fuel to any two-wheeler rider not wearing a helmet.
Petrol station owners are mandated to install CCTV cameras capturing buyer footage, with Executive Magistrates authorized to review and report offenders to the District Magistrate.
Stations violating the order will face legal consequences and Tehsildars are tasked with ensuring the order’s dissemination to all petrol stations in their jurisdictions.
Violations of this order will be dealt with in accordance with Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), emphasizing the gravity of non-compliance.-KNB
