Srinagar 05 August (KNB): Several commuters travelling on the Bandipora-Srinagar road on Thursday morning said that the Indian Army blocked the traffic movement on the road which caused unnecessary problems to the people and those in an emergency.
The aggrieved commuters told the Kashmir News Bureau that Indian Army in the morning hours of Thursday on Bandipora-Srinagar obstructed the movement of traffic by stopping their vehicles ahead of them.
They said that traffic got stuck and created problems for the ones in an emergency. “In the morning one usually heads for his work or office and then getting stuck in traffic is very annoying. Today the army was not allowing us to move ahead and were showing us batons if anyone tried to move on. This is not good,” said one of the commuters, who was travelling towards Srinagar.
Other commuters also said that the traffic was stopped on the whole stretch of Bandipora and Safapora road as the army was in the way. “We were being browbeaten and were not allowed to go ahead. What if there would have been any emergency, anything could have happened,” said the commuters.
Regarding the matter, an Army official told Kashmir News Bureau that a bridge had been broken in the area, which necessitated the personnel’s intervention in it and therefore might have been a little inconvenient for the people.
He further said that there was no particular convoy movement in the area during the holding up of the traffic. (KNB) .
