Budgam 1 February (KNB): Residents of Mukdam Mohalla ‘A’ Sholipora in Budgam district are facing a life threatening situation due to high risk of landslide and requested authority to embank the area in order to avert any tragedy.
Several residents reached out to Kashmir News Bureau and said that they are in grave danger as the land in the area has been slowly drifting down since the heavy snowfall that took place in Kashmir valley recently.
The residents said, “We have gone sleepless for several nights now cause we can literally feel the land beneath our homes vibrating. Every morning elderly men of the village go out to check the situation and honestly, the land has been drifting down inch by inch day in and out for past several weeks.”
They said that there is a tense atmosphere within every household of the area.
“Every single family here is living in fear and utter nervousness cause the situation can get worse at any time and our homes, which we have built through hard earned money, can turn to dust at any moment,” residents said.
Pertinently, there are around 30 households situated in the locality.
With tears in his eyes, an elderly man said, “Our families, houses are at risk here and we pray to God to have mercy upon us.”
With folded hands, he further said, “I request the authority to save us, our families from the disaster in making here. The landslide has already taken place and if only the upper portion of the land loses its grip, every single soul here will be gone.”
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau, Zonal Officer, Soil and Water Conservation Department, Budgam district, Javaid said that a team was deputed in the area to assess the situation and the details have already been taken.
“We understand the circumstances these households are facing and our team has already taken all the details about the situation,” Javaid said, adding that the project file that has been compiled by the team will be submitted to the DC Budgam’s office by tomorrow.
When asked about the time it’ll take to embank the area, he said that as soon as the concerned authority approves the embankment project, the construction work will be initiated. (KNB)
