Two militants killed in Shopian encounter

Shopian, 07 October (KNB): In a overnight encounter between the government forces and militants at Sugan village of Zainapora belt in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, two militants were killed.

A senior police officer told Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) that two unidentified militants have been killed and the search operation is still on.

Militants were repeatedly asked to surrender, however, they refused to do so and fired upon us, in retaliation we killed two of them, officer added.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He revealed that as the joint teams of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

The operation was suspended late night on Tuesday due to darkness, however operation was resumed at the first light this morning.
It is believed that one of the militants is still hiding inside, sources said.
