9th Consecutive Week: Jama Masjid Friday Prayers Restricted, Mirwaiz under House Detention

Srinagar, 08 December (KNB): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed deep concern over the disallowance of Friday prayers for the 9th consecutive week at the historic central Jama Masjid.

Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, consistently placed under house detention for the 9th Friday, was unable to lead the prayers, sparking resentment from Anjuman. The Anjuman deemed these restrictions as not only unjustified but also lacking any apparent reason for such actions.

In a statement, Anjuman Auqaf criticized the administration’s interference in religious affairs, highlighting the profound emotional attachment of the people to Jama Masjid Srinagar and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir. The continuous denial of prayers at this significant mosque is seen as an affront to the sentiments of the local population.

The statement further condemned the government’s behavior, describing it as unfortunate and reflective of a vindictive policy. Silencing the mimbar and mihrab of Jama Masjid without a valid excuse is viewed as an infringement on the religious freedom of the people, adding to the existing tensions in the region.-KNB
