New Delhi, Nov 10(KNB): A high-intensity explosion ripped through a parked car near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday evening, resulting in the immediate death of at least eight people and leaving several others injured. The powerful blast triggered widespread panic and led to a city-wide high alert.
The incident occurred near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort metro station. Eyewitnesses reported a massive sound, indicating a high-calibre explosion. The intensity of the blast was strong enough to shatter windows of vehicles parked several metres away, engulfing multiple cars in flames.
Following the incident, senior Delhi Police officers and rapid response teams immediately reached the scene. The area was swiftly cordoned off, and seven fire tenders were rushed to control the raging fire.
Delhi Police have confirmed the casualty figure, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion. Authorities have sounded a high alert across the National Capital Territory as security forces assess the potential threat matrix following the severe incident in the congested, high-profile area.
