4 Militants Killed in Two South Kashmir Encounters

Srinagar 25 December (KNB): Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit and two militants of Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind (AGuH) were killed by government forces in two separate encounters in south Kashmir Shopian’s Chowgam area and Tral’s Hardumir area, respectively, said police on Saturday.  

Among the two encounters, the gunfight in Shopian’s Chowgam broke out during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday during which two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit militants were killed.  

The two slain militants killed in Shopian encounter were identified by police as Sajad Ahmad Chak, a resident of Braripora, Shopian and Raja Basit Yaqoob, a resident of Achan Litter, Pulwama. As per police records both slain were categorized militants linked with proscribed LeT outfit and were part of groups involved in several militant crime cases.

“Besides, the slain militant Sajad was also instrumental in motivating & recruiting the youth to join militant folds,” said police. 

In another encounter of Tral’s Hardumir area, two militants of Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind (AGuH) were killed by forces after the starting of an encounter in the area during Saturday afternoon. The slain militants were identified by police as Nadeem Bhat and Rasool alias Adil. 

Police said quoting IGP-K Vijay Kumar that Rasool was an IED expert. “Both (militants) were involved in several militant incidents including IED blast & grenade throwing,” said police. (KNB)
