3rd Day Snowfall: Flights, Jammu-Kashmir Highway Movement on Halt

Srinagar 05 January (KNB): With the continuous snowfall in the Kashmir valley from 3rd January, the flight operation and the traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar remain suspended on Tuesday. 

 

As per officials, the poor visibility due to the inclement weather makes it impossible for flights to take off or arrive at Srinagar international airport. 

 

However, the traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar highway, according to the officials remains suspended for the third day on Tuesday. The snow accumulation, with around 3ft, has left thousands of vehicles stranded, most of them destined to the valley with essential goods. 

 

Pertinently, the snow depth in various parts of Kashmir is Bandipora 2 inches, Sumbal – 2 to 3 inches, Hajin – 2 inches, Aragam – 2 inches, Nowgam – 03 inches, Pethkoot – 02 inches, Aloosa – 02 inches and Ajas – 02 inches till 8:30 a.m today. 

 

Srinagar – 8.0cm, Qazigund – 29.8cm, Pahalgam – 18.0cm, Kupwara – 2.0cm Kokernag – 26.0cm, Gulmarg – 20.3cm, Konibal – 21.0cm, Banihal – 3.2cm, Batote – 0.5cm and Bhaderwah – 4.0cm till 8:30 a.m today. 

 

Anantnag town – 14 inches, Bijbehara – 13 inches, Mattan – 12 inches, Ashmuqam – 14 inches , Pahalgam – 17 inches, Achabal – 15 inches, Dooru – 30 inches, Kokernag – 25 inches, Srigufwara – 14 inches , Utrsoo – 15 inches and Larnoo – 28 inches till 8:30 a.m today.

 

Budgam – 6 inches, Khag – 26 inches, Chadoora – 10 inches, Beerwah – 10+ inches, Charar-i-Sharief – 20+ inches, Waterhail – 14 inches, Narbal – 5 inches, Magam – 5 inches and Humhama – 6 inches till 8:30 a.m today.

 

However, the weather forecaster had already predicted the extension of the wet spell in Kashmir valley on 5th January with most impacting South Kashmir. (KNB)
