15 Militant Incidents in 2021 Upto February; 8 Militants Killed: Ministry of Home Affairs

Says 'after abrogation of Article 370, number of militant incidents in Jammu and Kashmir have reduced significantly'

New Delhi 9 March (KNB): Ministry of Home Affairs today revealed that 15 Militant incidents took place and 8 militants were killed in the year 2021 upto the month of February and said that after the abrogation of Article 370, the number of militant incidents in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has reduced significantly.

A statement by MoHA, a copy of which lies with Kashmir News Bureau, said that 594 militant incidents took place in 2019, 244 militant incidents in 2020 and only 15 militant incidents in 2021 (upto February).

It revealed that 157 militants were killed in 2019, militants killed in 2020 were 221 and in this year (2021) upto February, 8 militants were killed in J&K.

Moreover, the statement also revealed the details of civilians, security force personnel killed during the operations in last 2 years.

As per the statement there has been no casualty of civilians this year (2021) upto February but in the year 2019, Five civilians were killed and in 2020, Six civilians lost their lives during the operations.

Furthermore, about the security force personnel killed during the operations, the statement revealed that 27 personnel were killed in 2019 and in the year 2020, 33 personnel were killed, while in this year (2021 upto February), one security personnel was killed.

The statement further said that the Government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards militancy and has taken various measures, such as strengthening of security apparatus, strict enforcement of law against anti-national elements, intensified cordon and search operations to effectively deal with the challenges posed by the militant organisations.

“Security forces also keep a close watch on persons who attempt to provide support to militants and initiate action against them,” it said. (KNB)
