You can block me but you won’t be able to block 130 cr Indians: Gautam Gambhir hits back at Mehbooba Mufti

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gautam Gambhir on Thursday hit out at former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for blocking her on Twitter. Gambhir, who recently joined the BJP just before the start of the Lok Sabha elections, said Mufti can block him but she will not be able to block the more than 130 crore Indians.

“She (Mehbooba Mufti) can block me, but till when will she keep blocking 130 crore people of the nation? There is a wave in this country and if she doesn’t flow with it, she’ll drown. In 2014 there was a wave; in 2019 there is tsunami and there is development,” Gambhir was quoted as saying.

Mufti had blocked Gambhir on Twitter earlier this week after a war of words between the two on social media. The two indulged in a heated argument over Article 370 and 35A concerning the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The trigger for the altercation was a move by the Delhi High Court to admit a PIL that sought a direction from the court to the Election Commission for imposing a ban on J&K politicians Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar, and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti from contesting in the Lok Sabha elections.

Reacting to the move, Mufti tweeted: “Why waste time in court? Wait for the BJP to scrap Article 370. It will automatically debar us from fighting elections since the Indian constitution won’t be applicable to Jammu and Kashmir anymore.”

She added: “Na samjhogay tho mit jaoge, aye Hindustan walo. Tumhari dastaan tak bhi na hogi dastaano mein (O people of India, you will be erased if you do not understand. Even your tales won’t be written in history).”

An angry Gautam Gambhir reacted by saying she should not be talking about India in such a manner, as it was not a “blot like you that can be erased”. Responding, Mufti expressed ‘hope’ that Gambhir’s political career wouldn’t be as “abysmal” as his cricketing stint.

“U needed 10 hours to respond to my tweet and come up with such a pedestrian analogy!!! Too slow. It shows the lack of depth in ur personality. No wonder you guys have struggled to solve the issues at hand,” Gambhir then responded.

“I worry for your mental health, am used to people trolling but this level of stalking is unhealthy. I’d imagine most people sleep at night. “Better (zip it) since you don’t know anything about Kashmir. Here, blocking you now, so u can do the 2 rupee per tweet trolling somewhere else,” Mufti said, stating that she was blocking the cricketer.
