Volatile Start to JK Assembly Budget Session

Jammu, Jan 02 (KNB): Pandemonium was witnessed during Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra’s opening address to a joint session of the assembly here at Jammu as the opposition raised slogans against the “failure on all fronts” of the PDP-BJP state government and staged a walkout.

As Vohra started his address to begin the Budget session, members of the National Conference and Congress stood up shouting slogans against the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government.




Meanwhile, Independent MLA Engineer Rashid tried to disrupt the speech of Governor N N Vohra raising the issue of human rights violations carried by the government forces in Kashmir.
Prior to that, MLA Rashid staged a forceful sit-in protest outside the legislative complex against continued human rights abuses.
As a matter of fact, opposition parties are expected to corner the PDP-BJP coalition government on law and order situation in Valley, “Power crisis, announcement of panchayat polls and developmental issues.
At the first day of the 40-day Budget Session one saw many hard allegations as the opposition Congress and National Conference accused the state government under Chief Minister Mehbobba Mufti of “murdering democracy
The highlighting feature of the long Assembly session would be when State Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu would present the budget on January 11.
Interestingly it would be Drabu’s 4th consecutive budget and the first after the implementation of GST regime in the State and country last year.




Meanwhile, Legislative Assembly speaker Kavinder Gupta has sought the cooperation of political parties for smooth conduct of budget session, which would end on February 10. (KNB)
