Srinagar, Nov 29 (KNB): Panic gripped Pratap Park on Saturday afternoon after an unidentified woman attempted to set herself ablaze in the busy city centre. The swift response of locals, however, averted a major tragedy.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman suddenly doused herself with what appeared to be petrol before trying to ignite it, sending shockwaves through the crowd. The alarming scene triggered chaos as people rushed toward her, trying to grasp the situation and intervene.
Bystanders reacted immediately, managing to smother the flames within seconds and pull the woman away from danger. Their prompt action prevented severe injuries, witnesses said.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and shifted the woman to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Authorities said the woman carried no identification, and her identity remains unknown. The reasons behind her drastic attempt are still unclear.
Police have registered the incident and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the self-immolation attempt.(KNB)
