One of the students (name withheld) told KNB that she had applied for the admission at Degree College Sopore during the first week of April but after around a week they cancelled her application.
The student had tried to get admissions at Degree College Sopore because of the availability of ‘Statistics subject’ there.
“I was not given any reason as to why my admission was cancelled out,” the student said, adding that afterwards she had to try for admissions at GDC Bandipora where her subject of interest ‘Statistics’ is not available.
“I had no other option left so I decided to change my subject but then authority at GDC Bandipora told me that there are no vacancies left,” she said, adding, “I’ve no idea what to do now, it just feels nobody cares about the ones without any backing/power.”
Another student said that last week, they went to GDC Bandipora for admissions but there were no vacancies in their core subject.
“In a rush, we went for the admission in a different subject but eventually we withdrew our admission cause we had little knowledge about it and in future we might have suffered,” he said.
When asked why he did not submit his admission form during the given time frame by the college, the student responded that it was because of the financial issues.
He said that GDC Bandipora is a grand college, “We don’t understand why there are no vacancies.”
Several other students told KNB that the Pandemic has already made their studies suffer from past one year and now that they are being denied admission at the College, they feels that the future is bleak.
Furthermore, these students said that they could try to find admissions in other colleges but those are located quite far away and they can’t afford to travel such huge distance.
Moreover, Talking to Kashmir News Bureau, Principal GDC Bandipora, Dr. Amin Malik said that they have already given admission to all the students who applied on time and the entire capacity allotted by the Higher Education Department is occupied now.
He said, “Moreover, on the directions of Higher Education Department, we also extended the capacity by 100 students and accordingly admissions were given.”
“Almost entire capacity of the college is filled and now we are not in a position to take more admissions,” he emphasized.
The Principal made it clear that the college had provided the students 15 days for submitting application for admission.
Regarding the allegations that admission has been given to students with certain backing/influence, he said that if they have any proof, “come forward with an application and prove it.” (KNB)
