Two Arrested with Heroin-Like Substance in Kupwara

KUPWARA, AUGUST 19(KNB): Kupwara Police today arrested two individuals, including a woman, and recovered a heroin-like substance after intercepting a suspicious vehicle during a routine check, a police official stated.

According to a statement from the police, a team from Police Station Kupwara was conducting routine patrolling and naka checking at Batergam near the Radio Station when they signalled a Hyundai i10 Sports vehicle (registration number JK15A-6188) to stop.

“The vehicle was moving from Batergam towards Kupwara. The driver attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended by the alert police personnel,” the statement read.

On-the-spot verification identified the driver as Afaq Mohiuddin Bhat, son of Gh. Mohiuddin Bhat, a resident of Aloosa Bandipore. The woman accompanying him was identified as Muneeba Begum, wife of Mehrajudin Bhat, also a resident of Aloosa Bandipore.

Police said that during a search, a “heroin-like substance” was recovered from the possession of the female passenger.

In connection with the seizure, an FIR No. 261/2025 under relevant provisions of the law has been registered at Police Station Kupwara, and a further investigation has been initiated.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the commitment of Kupwara Police to its drive against the drug menace and appealed to the general public for their cooperation in this effort.(KNB)
