Srinagar 17 May (KNB): An encounter raged between militants and Government security forces during the early morning hours in Khonmoh area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, in which two militants were killed.
As per Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, Jammu and Kashmir Police had received specific intel about the presence of militants in the area and after developing certain leads, a team of Police, CRPF and Army laid siege of the suspected spot.
While talking to reporters at Pantha Chowk, He said that two militants were hiding there, who were repeatedly asked to lay down their arms and surrender but refused the offer several times.
IGP Kashmir said that the encounter raged during the morning and both the militants belonging to Al-Badr outfit were killed.
Moreover, He also informed the media that there were Six active militants in Srinagar out of which 1 was killed in the Kokernag (Anantnag) encounter.
As per the IGP, Kashmir, 5 local militants are still active in the City and they are being tracked down, “would either be killed or apprehended,” he said.
He said that there is vast network of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in the district, among which many have been apprehended and booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) while as those who fall in C-category of OGWs are being counselled and handed over to their families.
Regarding the foreign militants in Srinagar, as of now IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said no foreign militant is permanently active in the district (Srinagar). (KNB)
