Three militants killed in Chattabal Srinagar gunfight

Srinagar, May 05 (KNB): Three militants were killed on Saturday in an encounter between militants and government forces in Chattabal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar. A civilian was also crushed to death by government forces a few miles away from the encounter site.
According to the sources Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) received here, following inputs about the presence of militants Srinagar police along with CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chattabal area in Srinagar during which hiding militants fired upon the joint search party resulting ensuing an encounter causing minor injuries to a CRPF personnel.
The encounter which lasted about nine hours resulted in the killing of three militants. Among them one was identified as as Fayaz Ahmad Hamal of downtown Srinagar. The other two militants are likely foreigners. They all belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba.
“AK 47 rifles, magazines, UBGL, UBGL Grenades,Grenades ,Wire cutter, Medical Kit, and matrix sheets were recovered from encounter site,” said a police spokesman, adding, Fayaz was previously involved in case fir no 83/2017 u/s 392 RPC ,7/25 IA Act ,30 Police Act of police station MR Gunj Srinagar.
“Pertinently, the area was sealed to carry out further searches on cooling of rubbles immediately after the encounter ended to ensure no damage is caused by any explosive material left over at the encounter site,” the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, authorities snapped internet services on mobile phones in Srinagar to calm tensions and to prevent anti-India demonstrations from being organized. A complete shutdown is being observed in parts of Srinagar.  (KNB)
