Srinagar, Aug 01 (KNB): Amid the peaceful protests in length and breadth of Kashmir Valley against the proposed move to abrogate Article 35-A, the National Conference leader in an aggressive statement has warned New Delhi that in case of abolition of Article 35-A the Indian flag will not be seen in Kashmir.

Pertinent to mention here, the Supreme Court of India will hear a case questioning the constitutional validity of Article 35A. The debate with respect to the constitutionality of Article 35A started after an NGO ‘We The Citizens’ filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2014, saying the provision was only supposed to be a temporary one.

Addressing a workers rally, the senior National Conference leader and MLA Mendhar Javaid Ahmad Rana stated that, “If any alteration is made in Article 35A or if Section 370 is abolished, then the Indian flag will not be seen here (Kashmir),” a reputed News Agency ANI quotes.

Earlier Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik called for two days complete shutdown and protests against proposed move to abolish Article 35 A which permits only subjects of Jammu and Kashmir to get property in the state.

On Tuesday, adopting aggressive approach against the alleged threat posed to article 35A, the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference asked its cadre to gear up for the agitation if situation arises.

It is important to know, Article 35A was imposed by Maharaja Hari Singh during Dogra regime in Jammu and Kashmir that defined state subjects and their rights. In 1949 popular Leader Shiekh Abudullah took over reins from Dogra ruler. He later negotiated J&K’s political relationship with New Delhi, which led to the inclusion of Article 370 in the Constitution. (KNB)
