Baramulla 23 March (KNB): A symposium on Career Opportunities in Humanities was held in the auditorium of Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) Delina on Tuesday.
Under proper Covid protocol, staff members and students from all streams enthusiastically participated in the first of its kind programme of HSS Delina.
A statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau said that the symposium was presided over by Mohammed Shafi, Lecturer Chemistry. The guest speakers were two prominent doctorate students from University of Kashmir namely Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, M.A ,B.Ed, M.Ed,SET,NET (Gold Medalist) and
Waseem Raja M.A ,B.Ed, M.Ed, NET,JRF.
Both the scholars threw light on the career opportunities in humanities subjects like Sociology, Economics, Political Science, History Education, Psychology etc.
They said that these subjects do benefit a student in so many ways. One can get fellowship and earn while learning.
After qualifying NET or SET and PHD, one can get prestigious jobs like Assistant Professor, Lecturers etc, they added.
They also said that most of civil service aspirants opt social science as one can score more in it.
Moreover, others who spoke on the occasion include Lecturer Qazi Syed Sajad, A.R Bakshi, Sumaya Lone and among the student Mehvish and Yasir shared their point of view.
Qazi Syed Sajad in his speech underlined the importance of Humanities in a lucid manner.
He said that society has different dimensions like social, political, economic etc.
So different subjects are required to understand the society in a better manner, he added.
Qazi Sajad talked about how knowledge of political science can make a citizen conscious of his socio, polito and legal rights and responsibilities.
He said that a student of political science can become a successful TV panellist, psephologist, columnist, advocate, political advisor and so on.
Moreover, A.R Bakshi in his thought-provoking speech said that a student of Humanities is usually sharp in both speaking and writing.
He said that a mad race for a few professions must stop and students should think out of the box.
On the occasion, In her nicely woven speech, Sumaya Lone expressed how wonderful are the subjects like Psychology, Education and Political Science.
Sumaya informed the audience that after her post graduation in Psychology, she got and availed so many opportunities.
She said that a students of Education and Psychology can become career councilors too.
They can work in international NGOs too and earn handsomely, She added.
Student Mehvish said that studies in social science are very interesting and one gets huge knowledge about the socio-economic and political issues and their solutions too.
Similarly, Yasir said that students should take their studies seriously and must choose their favourite subjects.
He said economics is his favourite subject and he wants to pursue career in this subject.
Furthermore, at the end of the programme the guest scholars taught students the method of survey in social science.
Pertinent to mention that the symposium was moderated by lecturer Qazi Syed Sajad and the event was organised by PEL Sameer Ahmad Lone. (KNB)
