Suspected militants in Srinagar killed two cops to help in escaping jail inmate

Srinagar, Feb 06 (KNB): In a Bollywood type of its incident, two policemen were killed on Tuesday in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) by suspected militants to make the escape route for a foreign militant identified as Naveed Jat alias Abu Hanzullah forcing Police to sound an alert in the district.

Sources told KNB that a police party accompanying some foreign militant for medical checkup at SMHS hospital was attacked by suspected militants to help a jail inmate identified as Naveed Jat alias Abu Hanzullah of Pakistan in escaping custody.

Soon after the incident, SOG and CRPF have cordon off the entire area and launched massive searches to nab them. When this report was filed no one has been arrested so far.

Following the attack, police sounded an alert in the Srinagar district while as police has been asked to intensify the searches in all the entry and exit points in the city.

SSP Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail Parray told that Naveed was brought from central jail for medical checkup. He had a scuffle with escorting police party and suddenly two persons appeared and opened fire. In the incident two policemen suffered injuries.

The slain policemen have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad and Babar Ahmad.

Pertinently, Naveed arrested in 2014 was close associate of Abu Qasim, a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander who was killed in 2015 in an encounter in south Kashmir. (KNB)
