Srinagar 18 August (KNB): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar Sandeep Chaudhary Wednesday ordered the transfer of nine J&K cops purportedly involved in the thrashing of journalists in the summer capital while covering Shia Muslim’s 8th Muharram procession.
The order was issued after DGP J&K Dilbag Singh expressed his concern over an undesirable behaviour with media persons in Srinagar yesterday and instructed SSP Srinagar to take action against the erring police officer.
However, on Wednesday afternoon, the order was issued by SSP Srinagar, mentioning in it names of nine cops of different positions, to be transferred with immediate effect.
The order includes five Inspectors — Mushtaq Ahmad, Mohammad Ishaq, Muddasir Nazar, Aftab Ahmad Bhat and Manzoor Ahmad; three SIs — Sheikh Adil, Showkat Ali Darzi and Ghulam Mustafa and one PSI — Zaheer Nissar to be transferred to different areas of Srinagar.
“Concerned supervisory officers will relieve the transferees forthwith under intimation to this office,” reads the order.
It is pertinent to mention that a couple of politicians also denounced the thrashing of journalists who were discharging their duties on ground. (KNB)
