Main Accused Identified; Two Juveniles Allegedly Involved, Further Investigation Underway
Srinagar, Aug 7 (KNB): Srinagar Police have solved a major theft case registered at Police Station Rainawari and recovered stolen property worth approximately ₹17.5 lakh, including gold ornaments, cash, three iPhones and a motorcycle, officials said on Friday.
According to police, the case was registered under FIR No. 35/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint lodged by Mohd Amin Changa, son of Mohd Yousuf Changa, a resident of Changa Mohalla, Mir Behri, Dal, Rainawari, regarding a theft at his residence.
During the course of investigation, police identified the main accused as Mohd Hussain Latoo, son of Mohd Afzal Latoo, a resident of Akhoon Mohalla, Mir Behri, Dal, Rainawari.
Police said the investigation subsequently revealed the alleged involvement of two other associates, both of whom were found to be juveniles.
Acting on disclosures made during the investigation, the police team recovered gold ornaments valued at around ₹12 lakh along with ₹2.2 lakh in cash.
Further investigation revealed that a portion of the stolen money had allegedly been used to purchase three iPhones and a motorcycle, collectively valued at approximately ₹3.5 lakh. The items were also recovered by police.
The recovered property includes two gold bangles, eight gold rings, one gold necklace, one gold pendant set, two large earring sets, one small earring set, a pair of gold jhumkas, one wristwatch, ₹2.2 lakh in cash, three iPhones and one motorcycle.
Police estimated the total value of the recovered gold ornaments, cash and other articles at approximately ₹17.5 lakh.
Further investigation in the case is underway and police said additional recoveries may follow.
Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens and urged people to promptly report suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the nearest police station. (KNB)
