Srinagar 12 December (KNB): Plains in Kashmir received the season’s first snowfall while the higher reaches witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall during the last 15 hours.
Deputy Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad told Kashmir News Bureau that Srinagar received around 2 inches of Snowfall during the last night.
“Weather is like be better till 18-19th December but after 15th of this month it might just get a little cloudy,” he said.
In Kashmir, heavy snowfall was recorded in Gurez.
He said, “Around 2 feet to 2.5 feet of snow was recorded in different areas of Gurez, which is the highest in the valley.”
He added that the during the last night temperatures were below zero and it is going to get cold in the mornings and evenings here.
As per Kashmir News Bureau reports, light to Heavy snowfall was received across the Bandipora district during the previous night.
Early morning, authorities launched the snow clearance operations immediately as machines were deployed across the district.
Reports revealed that Dawar received 1 feet of snow, 13 inches at Kanzalwan, 18 inches at Razdan, 8 inches at Kudara, 7 inches at Surinder , 8 inches at Authwatto, and two inches at Bandipora town.
Authorities told KNB that 3 snow cutters were deployed at Surender Kudara and Bohtu.
They said that electricity supply was affected owing to snowfall and restoration work was immediately launched.
KNB report further stated that 12 feeders of Sumbal sun Division and seven feeders of Bandipora were under fault.
Executive Engineer PDD told Kashmir News Bureau that the field workers are on job to restore electricity and most of the feeders have been restored. (KNB)
