Srinagar 22 June(KNB): Following a massive landslide triggered by heavy rains at several places of Ramban and Banihal, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed for traffic on Wednesday. The catastrophe has left hundreds vehicles stranded.
The 270-km long Jammu-Srinagar highway is the sole all-weather road that connects Kashmir to the rest of the country.
Due to a massive landslide at Dewal Bridge, Samroli, Dharamthal, Sarina mandir, Dalwas Ramban and other places the traffic from the both sides was suspended.
Senior Superintendent of Police, traffic (national highway), Shabir Ahmad Malik told news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB that, road clearance agencies have pressed men and machinery and efforts are on to make the highway traffic worthy. “No fresh traffic was allowed.
Police have requested the public to cooperate in this regard and make travel plans only after checking about the reopening of the road.(KNB)
