South Kashmir youth thrashed by militants succumbs in hospital

Kulgam, Mar 22 (KNB): In continued bloodshed in Kashmir, Omais Rashid Bhat who was allegedly roughed up and tortured by militants on March 8 this month succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS this morning.

Militants had reportedly owned the attack on him in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district claiming that the said “youth had gone astray and was involved in anti-movement activities’.

Police had said that one Omais Rashid Bhat of Qaimoh aged about 20 years was abducted by some unknown persons from his native village Qaimoh during evening hours of March 8 with intention to kill him.

He was then thrown away at Ves Batpora area in the almost unconscious state and later on referred to Srinagar hospital for treatment.

On coming Friday in a couple of Qaimoh masjids, the clerics had read out a letter purportedly written by militants owning the attack on the said youth.The militants in their letter had claimed that they thrashed the said youth for his alleged “anti-movement activities.” “We warn all those who are involved in dubious activities,” the letter claimed.

Police have registered an FIR vide number 4/18 under section 364 RPC and had taken up the investigation. Family sources informed that Omais breathed his last this morning and his body was taken to his native village for last rites.
