November 14th: 2022: Department of Endocrinology SKIMS celebrated World Diabetes Day today at SKIMS auditorium aimed to create awareness about the diabetes management.
In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB said that during the event panel discussion on ” The Emerging Epidemic of obesity , Diabetes and the metabolic syndrome was conducted which was moderated by Dr. Bashir A Laway HOD Endocrinology & Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS.
Patient sucess stories ” People with Diabetes” was also highlight of the program in which many patients shared their experiences who have been successfully treated by the doctors at SKIMS.said statement
According to statement workshop was also conducted in which experts deliberated on various significant topics on diabetes. Emphasis was laid on insulin management, carbohydrate counting and self monitoring of blood glucose.
Director SKIMS Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul who was Chief guest on the occasion complimented the department for organizing the event to educate the people. He emphasized on sensitising healthcare workers to have sufficient knowledge to educate masses. He further said in prescription economic dimension should be considered in treatment & diagnostics and should not be influenced by big corporates.
Dean Medical Faculty & HOD Endocrinology Dr. Bashir A. Laway in his address said that the administration is working out to engage diabetic educators, start fellowship programs and take many initiatives at SKIMS to expand the diabetic management services.
Professor Shariq R Masodi Convener of the program delivered a comprehensive lecture on Diabetes of the Young – the challenges. Dr. Riaz A Misgar and organising secretary of the event welcomed the guests in his address and thanked guest of honour Mr. Shafeeq Ahmad Director Social Welfare for gracing the occasion.
Dr. Ashraf Ganai, Dr. Riaz A Misgar , Dr. Peerzada Ovais , Dr. Shahnaz A. Mir & Dr. Khurshid A bhat also delivered lectures on various topics and emphasised on various techniques including education about the disease , lifestyle modifications for management of the disease. statement further said (KNB)
