Srinagar 17 Sep(KNB): The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Kashmir has successfully apprehended Zafraan Khan, a primary suspect in a narco-terror case, who had been on the run for over three years. Khan, a resident of Mohra Dawran, Uri, was arrested by a special SIA team in the Kathua district.
This arrest is a significant breakthrough against a narco-terror network allegedly supported by handlers in Pakistan. The module is accused of smuggling narcotics like heroin and poppy through the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector. The drugs were then distributed and sold across both the Kashmir valley and the Jammu region, with the proceeds used to fund terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khan’s arrest is part of a larger case (FIR No. 13/2022) involving the recovery of one kilogram of heroin, seven kilograms of poppy straw, and four kilograms of poppy seeds. Five other members of this module have already been charged under the UAPA and NDPS Act. The SIA expects that Khan’s arrest will help them uncover more details about the network’s operations, leading to its complete dismantlement.
This operation is the latest in a series of intensified crackdowns by the SIA against narco-terror networks. Just last week, the agency arrested another long-absconding suspect, Abdul Rashid Bhat, in Pulwama. These arrests underscore the SIA’s ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the region.(KNB)
