Shopian Gunfight: Two Militants Killed, Dozens injured in Clashes

Shopian 10 July (KNB): Two militants were killed and two army soldiers were injured on Tuesday in an encounter in Kundalan village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, reports said.

According to reports reached to Kashmir News Bureau, dozens of protesters were injured when they started pelting stones on security forces near encounter site in Shopian district.

However, the identity of slain militants is being ascertained.

According to police official, Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Army and CRPF  launched a cordon and search operation in  Kundalan village of  Shopian  following information about the presence of militants.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated.

He said a large number of civilians rushed towards the encounter site at Kundalan and started pelting stones at security personnel.

The encounter as well as the clashes in the outer periphery of the cordoned area were going on when reports last came in. (KNB)
