Rifle snatched from Kashmir University guard

Srinagar, May 16 (KNB): Unknown persons on Wednesday snatched a rifle from a policeman at the Kashmir University in Hazratbal, Srinagar. The incident came days after an assistant professor joined the militant ranks and was killed in South Kashmir a day after his joining.
Reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) that some unknown persons overpowered a policeman posted at the Rumi Gate of the varsity and fled with his rifle.
“Rifle snatched from a guard post at Kashmir University near Rumi Gate which was deployed at university on deputation from Armed Police,” said a police spokesman, adding, searches have been launched in the area to nab the assailants and recover the rifle.
Pertinently, five Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including an assistant professor at Kashmir University Mohd Rafi Bhat, were killed on 6th May in an encounter in Shopian district.
“They are even snatching rifles outside Kashmir University now. It doesn’t look like any place in Kashmir is safe any longer,” Tweets Omar Abdullah former Chief Minister J&K.
