Restriction in downtown, pellet-firing shuts Sumbal

Srinagar, May 11 (KNB): For the fourth day this week Government imposed strict restriction in old city Srinagar in following the civilian and militant killings days before. There were no Friday congregation prayers allowed in Kashmir’s grand mosque due to the strict restrictions in and adjoining areas. 
To prevent protests in the aftermath of the killing of militants and civilian in Srinagar and South Kashmir, the authorities imposed strict restrictions on the movement of people in dozens of areas in the old city and directed schools and colleges across the district to remain shut on Friday.
In south Kashmir most of the parts particularly Shopian observed shutdown for straight fifth day where five militants and six civilians were killed on Sunday. It was 51th day of strike in Shopian following the repeated killing of civilians this year. 
 
In the North Kashmir  Sumbal area of district Bandipora a complete shutdown was observed on Friday against the pellet firing by Jammu Kashmir Police on Shopkeeper Thursday. The shopkeeper has been identified as Abdul Rashid.
Reports state that all the shops remain shut in view of injuries to a shopkeeper in pellet firing by the police on Thursday afternoon during clashes. He is battling for eye sight at SKIMS, Hospital in Srinagar. Abdul Rashid (50) was hit by pellets near Sumbal Bridge.
On the otherhand, Trader’s Federation Sumbal has said that the protest will continue until police lodge FIR against the accused policeman who fired pellets on the shopkeeper. 
Meanwhile a protest rally was carried out by Hurriyat (M) leaders and activists in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar against the killing of civilians in parts of Valley. (KNB)
