Srinagar, Jan 26 (KNB): Amid threats of the militant attacks following the intelligence inputs, the 69th Republic Day functions held in parts of Kashmir passes off peacefully under the blanket of high security.
Reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau, all Republic Day programmes in Kashmir, including the main event at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium passed off peacefully amid tight security in view of intelligence reports suggesting that militants might target the functions.
For smooth conduct of the programs the authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in parts of the Valley, apart from setting up multiple checkpoints. The mobile connectivity was also snapped as a security measure.
This year the main official function was held at Srinagar’s Sher- e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, where Revenue Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri presided over the event. Earlier the event of the parade was changed to Cricket Stadium from Bakshi Stadium in context of security reasons.
The celebrations were under threat as intelligence inputs had suggested that a non-Kashmiri female suicide bomber might try to disrupt the parade at one of the venues, the officials had said. The police, however, claimed to arrest the lady identified as Sadiya from Pune.
Pertinent, the separatist leaders had called for complete shutdown and protests after Friday prayers.(KNB)
