Ration paucity could lead to malnutrition in Kashmir

Govt must revisit its policy vis-à-vis supply of ration to valley: Alam

Srinagar 09 Jan(KNB): Peoples Conference leader and former legislator Mohammad Khurshid Alam on Monday expressed serious concern over the prevent ration paucity in Kashmir, terming such a situation alarming.
In a statement issued here, Alam said that the people living in cities , towns and in Kashmir’s country side are ruing over the magnitude of ration crises with most of the ration depots running dry and turning people away. Such a trend, says Alam is deeply disturbing and could provide detrimental for overall societal development.

Alam said that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme launched years back by the popular government in Jammu and Kashmir has been seized and the beneficiaries are no longer availing its benefits. He said that sooner the better, the components of this scheme should be re-implemented for the greater common good.

Alam said that at present, mere 5 kg per person per month are provided to the people in Kashmir and given the food priorities of the people of this landlocked valley, such a share is meagre and severely insufficient. This could lead to malnutrition if not addressed on priority by the government- sooner the better.(KNB)
