Srinagar, May 23 (KNB): J&K People’s Democratic Party since its inception about two decades back offered a viable alternative to the people of Jammu and Ksashmir who were fed up with traditional polity. Its slogan of soft borders, healing touch resonated with the masses.
But with 2015 accord with right wing BJP many believe that its ground support has decreased especially in its bastion Kashmir , but the senior brass of the party are still managing to keep the narrative of PDP afloat prominent among them Rafi Mir, Sartaj Madni, Muzaffar Hussain Baig.
Rafi Ahmad Mir is a veteran politician of the party and the Chief Spokesman of J&K People’s Democratic Party. Presently the Vice Chairman of J&K Tourism Development Corporation which is being headed by the Chief Minister of J&K as the Chairperson.
Mir has earlier served as the General Secretary of People’s Democratic Party headed by its Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. In 2017, he was also nominated as a member of the high powered constitution amendment committee of the J&K People’s Democratic Party. He currently serves as the Incharge of Parliamentary Constituency of South Kashmir for J&K People’s Democratic Party. Rafi Mir as a college student did a lot of political activities after being elected as Secretary of All Kashmir Students Youth Welfare Council. He mobilized the college youth to utilize their potential towards constructive ways and also take part in political activities. His acumen is proving very fruitful to party.
Muzaffar Hussain Baig is currently the senior most strategist of the party, has also served as deputy chief minister ..He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the J&K state in 2002 and 2008. He also held the position of Law Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in the state cabinet from the period of 2002-2006. a lawyer who has got his master’s degree from Harvard Law School. Besides working in top law firms in USA and New Delhi in India, Muzaffar Baig was also the Advocate General of the J&K.He was born in Wahidna, a small hilly village in Baramulla district of the Kashmir valley. Baig was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 from Baramulla.
His power to design strategy is undoubtedly among the best and aiding PDP at this crucil juncture.
Sartaj Madni comes to mind another matured voice of the PDP. Recently, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti had nominated Muhammad Sartaj Madni as party’s vice president for second consecutive term . Madni was elected to the assembly from Devsar constituency in 2008 and served as the deputy speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
A Political Analyst , while talking to The Kashmir News Bureau stated – “ The trio leaders Rafi Mir, Sartaj Madni and Muzaffar Hussain Baig are despite all difficult circumstances keeping the fold of PDP together and helping the party to remain firm on ground zero. It is this veteran combination that with full valuable experience on its side is keeping the PDP in touch with its supporters and also ably conveying the sentiment of ground and its issues to the chief minister .”
On Analytical and ground zero paradigm the youth leadership of PDP is being questioned for its reach but the veteran trio leaders are helping in sailing the ship of PDP despite winds and storms. (KNB)
