Bandipora 10 Sep(KNB): In a significant crackdown on drug-related crime, the Competent Authority and Administration of the Special Authority for Forfeited and Attached Moveable and Immovable Properties (SAFEM), New Delhi, have frozen properties worth ₹56.60 lakhs belonging to two notorious drug smugglers, Khursheed Ahmad Waza and his wife Posha Begum.
In a statement issued to KNB, police said that, the properties, totaling ₹56,60,000, were frozen under Section 68F(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as they were determined to have been acquired through the illegal sale of narcotic drugs.
Khursheed Ahmad Waza, son of GH Ahmad Waza, and Posha Begum, wife of Khursheed Ahmad Waza, have been long-standing targets of law enforcement due to their involvement in the drug trade. Both individuals are presently facing charges under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
To ensure the safety and integrity of the ongoing investigation, Khursheed Ahmad Waza and Posha Begum are currently lodged at the KotBalwal Jail in Jammu and Central Jail Srinagar.
The frozen assets, including real estate and other properties, are expected to serve as a deterrent to others engaged in drug-related criminal activities. The move highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit drug trade and disrupt the financial infrastructure of those involved. (KNB)
