Srinagar 8 April (KNB): Kupwara police on Thursday said that they have arrested a person and recovered nine kilograms of heroin from his possession, the net worth of which police said is between 50 to 60 crore.
While briefing the media persons, SSP Kupwara said that they were following a group from last week after the specific inputs and finally busted the module last night during which nine kilogram of heroin was recovered, having a market value between 50 to 60 crores.
The police identified the person as Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, a resident of Karnah, and said that the person is in contact with militants in PoK.
“To help the militants organisations in the valley, these smugglers get involved in such drug dealings,” police official said, “ the handlers in Pakistan send the drugs across the LoC and entrust it to the smugglers so that they can be sold it and money generated from it is given to the militants.”
Replying to a reporter’s question about the border being under the watch of forces and how it is possible to send drugs to this side, the official said, “You already know about the topography, and they use different illegal means for it.” (KNB)
