Ganderbal 13 Jan(KNB): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district, Central Kashmir, today, hailing the dedication of construction workers who built the tunnel under extreme conditions.
The 6.5-kilometer tunnel provides all-weather connectivity to Sonamarg, making it a year-round tourist destination. It bypasses the stretch of the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway prone to avalanches and heavy snowfall during winter months.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah including Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Dr. Jitendra Singh, attended the inauguration ceremony.
The Z-Morh tunnel is expected to bring major benefits to the region, including boosting tourism, helping residents in winter, and improving travel between Srinagar and Leh. Once the Zojila tunnel is completed, even greater connectivity is expected.(KNB)
