Phase 1 Voting Underway Amid Tight Security in J&K

Srinagar 18 Sep(KNB): Voting for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections began today, with over 23.27 lakh eligible voters set to cast their ballots across 24 constituencies.

Seven districts, including Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian, are voting in the first phase, marking the first assembly polls since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Over 11.76 lakh men and 11.51 lakh women are eligible to vote, with tight security arrangements in place.

As of 9 am, over 11.11% voting has been recorded in the first phase, deciding the fate of candidates contesting across the Chenab Valley and South Kashmir regions.(KNB)
