Srinagar, Dec 20(KNB): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a Patwari in the Sofannaman area of Shopian for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in lieu of performing an official duty.
Officials identified the accused as Ashiq Hussain Shah, a resident of Turkawangam, Shopian. The arrest followed a complaint alleging that the Patwari had sought illegal gratification from a complainant.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and apprehended the official red-handed while he was allegedly receiving the bribe. He was immediately taken into custody.
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of law, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in similar acts in the past. The ACB reiterated its commitment to curb corruption and urged citizens to come forward and report such cases without fear.(KNB)
