Panchayat polls begin in Jummu and Kashmir,18.5% votes polled till 11am

Srinagar,17Nov(KNB):Voting for the first phase of the 2018 Panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir began on Saturday. The election will continue for eight more phases until 11 December.

According to the officials polling will be held in six districts of the Kashmir Valley, two in Ladakh and seven districts in the Jammu region
In the first phase at least 47 panchayat blocks will go to the polls in a nine-phased election process.

As per the reports, the election will be held in 16 blocks in Kashmir, 21 blocks in Jammu and 10 in Ladakh region on Saturday.

The polling percentage recorded until 11am is as:Srinagar 13.7%, Ganderbal 8.3 %,Budgam12%, Baramulla 12.5 %,Kupwara 33.6%
Handwara 28%,Bandipora 11.9%,
Sopore 7.6%,Leh 9.5%,Kargil 13.2%.

Earlier,JRL has given the valley wide strike call for today against the panchayat election.Shops,bussiness establishments and schools remained closed in the valley,while as less movement of private transport is being witnessed.(KNB)
