Srinagar 03 Sep(KNB): National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah is likely to contest the upcoming assembly elections from two constituencies – Ganderbal and Budgam, sources revealed.
According to sources, Abdullah’s decision to contest from both seats comes amidst concerns that his traditional stronghold of Ganderbal may not be a safe win this time around. “The party feels that Ganderbal is not a guaranteed win for Omar Abdullah, so he is considering contesting from Budgam as well to ensure his entry into the assembly,” a source said.
This is not the first time Abdullah has contested from multiple constituencies. In 2014, he had contested from both Beerwah and Sonawar constituencies, winning from Beerwah.
The NC’s decision to have Abdullah contest from two seats comes as the party faces a challenge from multiple candidates, including Sarjan Barkati, who is reportedly contesting from Ganderbal.
The NC has formed a coalition with the Congress for the upcoming assembly elections, which may impact the party’s strategy in various constituencies. Abdullah’s decision to contest from Budgam, if confirmed, will be seen as a move to strengthen the party’s position in the region.(KNB)
