Observing World Aids Day 2020, Event Organised at GMC Jammu 

Jammu 1 December (KNB): In connection with the observance of World AIDS Day 2020 and keeping in view the prevailing corona pandemic situation across the world, a small event was organised in the premises of Government Medical College, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu,  while following the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government of India.

A Statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau said that the Chief Guest of the function was Atal Dulloo (IAS), Financial Commissioner Health & Medical Education Department, J&K who flagged off of a cycle rally simultaneously from Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Rajouri at 7:30 A.M from GMC Jammu, followed by the inauguration of the voluntary blood donation camp at Blood Bank GMC Jammu.

“The cycle rally was organized by J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) in collaboration with Jammu Hill Cyclists, Rotary Club Jammu and Jammu Cyclist,” statement read.

Adding that the route of the rally was via Bakshi Nagar, K.C, Jewel Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Satwari and back to GMC Jammu.

The statement read, “In addition to the already going on media campaign in print, electronic and social media channels, small functions are also being organized to observe World AIDS Day at district levels by the concerned Chief Medical Officers through their respective Directorates of Health in the whole of J&K and Ladakh.”

 Officials further stated, “the theme for this year’s World AIDS Day is “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility” as the present health crisis has reminded us about the importance of global approach to tackle the current pandemic situation effectively as the responsibility lies with each and every individual to follow the preventive measures in order to remain safe themselves and also to keep others safe.”

“Mementoes were also presented to the presidents of the participating organizations and medals and certificates were given to all the participants,” the statement read.

It stated that Dr. Shashi Sudhan, Principal GMC Jammu; Dr. Yashpal Sharma, M.D, J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited; Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Project Director, JKACS; Mr. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Administrator GMC Jammu; Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, HOD Biochemistry, GMC, Jammu; Dr. Meena Sidhu, HOD Blood Bank GMC, Jammu; Dr. Sandeep Singh, Secretary/Registrar J&K Paramedical Council and Dr. Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, GMC Jammu were present in the event.
